Berton House :: Stories

The Berton family of Dawson, Yukon, included several writers. Their home was acquired by the Yukon Arts Council in 1989, to be used as the official home of the Yukon's writer-in-residence program. It sits about a block away from the Jack London Centre, and across the street from where Robert Service lived.

Pierre Berton, who lived there as a boy, became well known for his historical books. He says he got his start in writing in the Boy Scouts.

His mother, Laura Berton, gained fame after writing "I Married the Klondike."

The title-linked article is one of several on the website. This one, by Ken Spotswood, freelance journalist, appeared in the Klondike Sun Oct. 31, 1997, and has some great descriptive bits about life in the house...
